Housing Options
The University offers on-campus housing options that range from the rich diversity of our residence halls to the more self-reliant environment of apartment-style accommodations. An overview of each housing option can be found on the housing map.
The primary freshmen housing options are:
Litchfield Towers
Sutherland Hall
Holland Hall
Forbes Hall (honors program only)
Lothrop Hall
Upperclass undergraduate students admitted with a housing guarantee are provided the opportunity to live in on-campus residence halls that offer the camaraderie of the collegiate experience, or apartment-style accommodations which provide a more independent lifestyle. Refer to the selection process for information on how upperclass housing assignments are made.
Upperclass undergraduate students admitted without a housing guarantee may apply for on-campus housing; however, accommodations are provided as available. In addition, you may consider off-campus housing. For more information on this option, please visit Off-Campus Living.
Graduate students are not eligible for on-campus housing. Please visit Off-Campus Living to find out what options are available to meet your needs.
Residence Halls
Most resident students choose to live in one of the residence halls on campus. The University provides every resident with the fundamental amenities of contemporary student life: furniture, telephone, cable TV, and online network access. Additional features include e-mail kiosks, study and recreation lounges, fitness centers, dining options, coffee carts, free shuttle bus service, laundry facilities, mail centers, and special living communities.
Each residence hall has a security desk staffed around the clock to ensure that only students living in that particular residence hall have card access to that building. Visit Services for complete description of residence hall amenities and services.
Students living in the residence halls must purchase a meal plan for both the fall and spring terms.
A resident director is on staff in each residence hall to assist students with educational, recreational, and disciplinary issues. Upperclass resident assistants also live on most floors in the residence halls.
Special Living Communities
Special Living Communities are for students who wish to live with others who share a special academic or personal interest. These communities are located on designated floors in various residence halls. In most cases there are women’s floors and men’s floors available. You can choose from the following communities:

Apartment-style living
Upperclass students can choose apartment-style accomodations, which offer a more independent living environment with modified services and amenities. Apartment-style accommodations include a kitchen and dining and living areas, and accommodates two to four students. The University furnishes each apartment and provides telephone, cable TV, and online network access except in Centre Plaza, which has dial-up access.
Apartment-style living residents may purchase a meal plan, though they are not required to do so.
Off-Campus Living
Off-Campus Living provides students with the necessary information and tools to successfully reside in off-campus accommodations, including a Renters' Guide, apartment listings, roommate and subletting service, as well as other useful tips and contact information to assist you in your role as tenant.

University-owned apartments
Although owned and maintained by the University, University-owned apartments are not regarded as on-campus housing. They consist of several hundred unfurnished, affordable, and well-maintained apartments that are available to undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty. They range from efficiencies to three-bedroom units.
Undergraduate students living in University-owned apartments may purchase a meal plan, though they are not required to do so.
