Mission Statement


The Department of Housing, Food Services, and Panther Central strives for the highest standard of quality and service. It seeks to provide clean, comfortable, and safe living and dining accommodations for undergraduate students. In addition, it seeks to provide friendly and courteous service to current and prospective students, faculty, and staff through Panther Central, a 24-hour, seven-day-per-week customer service center.

Leadership Team -

Dr. Jim Earle - Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business

Dr. Jim Earle oversees the Department of Housing, Food Services, and Panther Central, as well as two campus stores. He manages a staff of 140 employees in 20 housing facilities and 18 dining locations. In addition, Jim manages the University’s contracted food services relationship with the on campus food service provider and their 500 employees. His departments are responsible for the housing assignment process, the ID center, and the maintenance and operations of housing facilities that accommodate nearly 8,000 students residing on campus. Jim joined the University of Pittsburgh in 1993, where he served the Athletic Department for 11 years before taking on his current role. Jim is committed to fulfilling the department’s mission of working to make school a little more like home.

Julie Bannister - Director, Service and Business Systems

Julie oversees Service and Business Systems for the Department of Auxiliary Services. Her duties include: directing all Panther Central operations including customer service, financing, policies, procedures, systems, and programs, managing the development and implementation of Departmental hardware and software systems, reviewing all marketing and communications efforts, and supervision of staff.

Ronald Markovich - Maintenance Coordinator

Ron oversees the maintenance and housekeeping operations for the Department of Housing, Food Services, and Panther Central. He supervises all superintendents, engineers, electricians, mechanics, and housekeepers. Ron assigns daily work orders, and manages the preventative and corrective maintenance programs. Some additional duties include: budgeting, ordering building equipment, supplies, and tools, administering labor contracts, managing fire system maintenance, assisting with strategic planning, and special project coordination.

Jamie serves as the administrative assistant to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business. Her duties include: organizing and coordinating special events within the department, creating and distributing the interdepartmental newsletter, maintaining close working relationships with outside vendors and other University departments, and providing administrative support to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business. In addition to her daily responsibilities, Jamie is also the department’s United Way Coordinator.

Housing Maintenance and Operations -

Ronald Markovich - Maintenance Coordinator

Ron oversees the maintenance and housekeeping operations for the Department of Housing, Food Services, and Panther Central. He supervises all superintendents, engineers, electricians, mechanics, and housekeepers. Ron assigns daily work orders, and manages the preventative and corrective maintenance programs. Some additional duties include: budgeting, ordering building equipment, supplies, and tools, administering labor contracts, managing fire system maintenance, assisting with strategic planning, and special project coordination.

As the Assistant Manager of Maintenance and Operations, Bill aids in the oversight of preventative and corrective maintenance in the residence halls. In addition to these responsibilities, Bill assists with issuing the daily work assignments to the maintenance staff, special project coordination and management, fire system maintenance, and building superintendent duties.

Michelle Smith - Housekeeping Coordinator

Michelle supervises all housekeepers in the Housing Department. She is responsible for managing daily work assignments, monitoring work performances, and overseeing the cleanliness of the residence halls. In addition to her supervisory duties, Michelle processes housekeeping work requests, orders housekeeping supplies and equipment, completes special projects, and makes budgeting recommendations.

Clayton assists in the supervision of all housekeepers in the Department. Some of his responsibilities include: building inspections, creating daily job assignments for employees, processing and assigning housekeeping work requests, ordering of supplies and equipment, and training of new employees. Clayton serves as acting supervisor in the Housekeeping Coordinator’s absence.

Andy Brown - Building Superintendent

Andy is responsible for daily inspections of all residence halls, retail, and office spaces, concentrating on cleanliness, aesthetic, and safety issues. He monitors corrective and preventative maintenance work orders, as well as ongoing projects to ensure all departmental expectations are met. Andy also meets and follows up with customers on a regular basis to address any concerns, and to confirm customer satisfaction.

Service and Business Systems, Panther Central -

Julie Bannister - Director, Service and Business Systems

Julie oversees Service and Business Systems for the Department of Auxiliary Services. As the Assistant Director, Katherine aids in the management of the day to day Panther Central operations. Katherine is responsible for exemplary customer service at Panther Central, supervising the Customer Service staff, conducting quality assurance audits, and establishing processes, procedures, and training. In addition, Katherine manages the housing assignment selection and application process for all on campus housing.

Michael Barker – Shift Lead, Evening Shift

Michael assists in supervising the evening shift customer service team. He provides direct customer service and support to students, parents, faculty, and staff. In addition to his customer service responsibilities, Michael assists with special departmental projects as needed.

Kelsey Brueckner – Senior Systems Analyst

Kelsey serves as the Senior Systems Analyst for the Department of Housing, Food Services, Panther Central, the University Stores and Conference Services. Her daily responsibilities include serving as one of the lead systems administrators for the various departmental systems, troubleshooting, responding to service requests, and routine maintenance. In addition to her regular duties, Kelsey assists with system enhancements and researches future systems initiatives.

Andrew Nguyen - Systems Analyst

Andrew serves as a Systems Analyst for all Department of Housing, Food Services, Panther Central, the University Stores, and Conference Services systems, with a special concentration on Kronos and TMA. Other responsibilities include: responding to service requests for the various systems, troubleshooting, set up of guest scan-in systems, POS devices, vending, laundry, and copy readers, and providing excellent customer service and support.

Kaitlin Powell - Communications and Design Coordinator


Kaitlin is responsible for the graphic design and photography for the Panther Central, Housing Services, and University Stores websites, marketing efforts, and publications. She also assists with Departmental social media communications, marketing initiatives, and analyzing current trends in web design.

Rich is the lead technical staff expert for the Department of Housing, Food Services, Panther Central, the University Stores, and Conference Services. He is responsible for analyzing and configuring components of departmental software including RMS, Blackboard, Persona, Micros, Kronos, TMA, and Sequoia. Some duties include: overseeing updates of software, troubleshooting complex technical issues, maintaining relationships with software and hardware vendors, and making budget recommendations.
