Matthew Sterne

Matthew Sterne oversees the Office of Business, Hospitality and Auxiliary Services, which includes University Housing, Dining Services, Panther Central, the University Club, the University Stores, parking and transportation services, mailing, printing and copy services, and surplus property. He manages a staff of over 200 employees in addition to managing the University’s contracted food service provider and their 500 employees in over 20 dining locations. Matthew’s department is responsible for the housing assignment process, the ID center, and the maintenance and operation of over 30 housing facilities that accommodate more than 8,000 students residing both on and off campus. Also part of Matthew’s portfolio is the University’s Conference Services unit, which provides support to numerous events and conferences on campus. His team also operates the four retail stores on Pitt’s Oakland campus.

Matthew’s prior experience includes more than 20 years in the hospitality industry, including senior leadership roles managing Fairmont properties in Boston; Scottsdale; Sonoma; and Mont-Tremblant, Canada; as well as Sheraton Hotels in Montreal and San Diego.

Matthew holds a bachelor’s degree from Concordia University and an MBA from Queen’s University, has served on the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association Board of Directors, is a Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. program graduate and served as vice chair of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.
